4 weeks of Eco-Living: A volunteer's perspective

As volunteers, my husband and I did not totally know what to expect when we came to the EcoHostel/ Spanish school. We arrived to the farm late at night, and were a bit nervous about eating completely vegetarian during our time there (we were not vegetarian before this time). However, after waking up the following morning in the middle of a breathtaking green valley and meeting the lovely, interesting people at the hostel, we agreed that this place was something very special. Paola’s EcoHostel/ Spanish School/ Organic Farm embodies the phrase “buena onda,” and for us it was an incredible, unforgettable surprise.

We became healthier and happier people during our time on Paola’s farm - in every way. As the yoga instructor, I lead daily 7am morning yoga sessions, we cooked together and enjoyed the vegetarian and organic meals, we learned the science of compost and basics of permaculture, and finally, Paola entrusted us to care for her animals and be in charge of the hostel while she was away for a few days. We are incredibly thankful for that trust that she put in us; our lives are much better because of our time in Guatape, and we will look back on our 4 weeks with warm hearts. We will undoubtedly ache to relive this time of our lives in Colombia, and hopefully we can return to this amazing, tranquil, stunning, relaxing, perfect place that Paola has lovingly, carefully constructed in one of the most breathtaking parts of the world. Everyone should spend a little time here. It is truly transformative and inspiring.
